The Masson Caving Group was founded in 1979 and is based in the Derbyshire Peak District .
Most weekends will find our members caving within the karst regions of the Yorkshire Dales and the Peak District.
Our name is derived from a cave local to us, which was the first to be opened as a show cave in 1844, located in Matlock Bath at the Heights of Abraham, namely,The Great Masson Cavern.
Our membership stands at around 70 persons from all walks of life, and we run caving trips from easy novice level through to the more physically demanding and technically involved trips.
Our aim is the discovery, exploration, understanding and most importantly the protection and conservation of these unique and precious environments.
We believe that correct training for caving is paramount and we offer ongoing training within our group structure.
We are part of the "Descent "magazine "Adopt a cave " scheme, and become involved in "clean ups" of the local environment.
We are affiliated to the Derbyshire Caving Association and are actively involved and support the Derbyshire Cave Rescue Organisation.
